Generative AI Policy
The Journal of Applied Nursing and Health (JANH) recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini) present both opportunities and challenges in scholarly publishing. To promote transparency, integrity, and accountability, JANH adopts the following policy:
- Authorship. Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work. Only individuals with significant intellectual contribution qualify for authorship.
- Permitted Use. Authors may use AI for limited purposes such as improving language, grammar, or text clarity. AI must not replace original scientific reasoning, data interpretation, or critical analysis without thorough human oversight.
- Disclosure. Any use of AI tools must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript (e.g., in the Acknowledgment or Methods section). Authors remain fully responsible for accuracy, originality, and proper citation of all content.
- Accountability. The use of AI does not absolve ethical responsibility. Authors are accountable for factual accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with ethical standards for the entire work.
