Generative AI Policy

Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in the Journal of Applied Nursing and Health (JANH)

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini) present both opportunities and challenges in scholarly writing and publishing. JANH is committed to maintaining transparency, integrity, and accountability in all publications. Accordingly, the journal adopts the following policy:

  1. Authorship.
GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, as they cannot take responsibility for the work. Only individuals who make significant intellectual contributions qualify for authorship.

  2. Permitted Use.
Authors may use GenAI for limited purposes, such as improving language, grammar, or text clarity. GenAI must not replace scientific reasoning, data interpretation, or critical analysis without careful human oversight.

  3. Disclosure.
Any use of GenAI in manuscript preparation must be transparently disclosed, for example in the Acknowledgment or Methods section. This disclosure applies throughout the peer review and publication process, in line with recommendations from STM, Elsevier, and WAME.

  4. Accountability.
Use of GenAI does not remove ethical responsibility. Authors remain fully accountable for:

    • Factual accuracy and data integrity

    • Originality of the work

    • Compliance with ethical standards for scholarly publishing

  5. Monitoring and Updates.
Given the rapid evolution of GenAI, JANH will periodically review and update this policy to align with international best practices and guidance from major publishers and associations.
